• The Safe 80 Taskforce worked to have a segment of the I-80 corridor in Monroe County designated as a “Highway Safety Corridor”.  The area was selected because they are high-crash, high-speed areas.  Fines are doubled throughout this safety corridor and the goal is to improve safety by reducing crashes and fatalities.
  • The Safe 80 Taskforce held a Traffic Incident Management Workshop in May 2012.  The workshop brought together numerous agencies and emergency management officials to discuss best practice measures regarding incident management with special emphasis on the targeted I-80 corridor.
  • The Safe 80 Taskforce urged PennDOT  to complete a study of the targeted I-80 corridor to further identify initiatives to improve safety, reduce congestion and address long term expansion alternatives.  The Safe 80 Taskforce worked with PennDOT and their contracted consultant, McCormick Taylor, to develop the scope of work.  The I-80 Corridor Study was completed in March 2009.
  • The Safe 80 Taskforce convened a Communications Subcommittee to address communication gaps between public safety officials in Pennsylvania and their counterparts along the I-80 corridor in New Jersey.  Several successful meetings between Pennsylvania and New Jersey officials have been held.
